Summer may be half over for most of the country, but for us SoCal dwellers, we know that summer is just getting started! Of course those warm summer nights will soon give way to chillier evenings, making August the perfect time to take advantage of some of the fun, nighttime activities SoCal offers through the end of the month.
Twilight Series at the Santa Monica Pier: Undoubtedly one of the most fun SoCal summer nighttime activities is the Twilight Series on the Santa Monica Pier where every Thursday night from 7pm – 10pm, guests can attend for free and listen to a different artist each week. The best part about the Twilight Series? (And okay, maybe we’re biased). Guests can also sample free Cabo Chips at the Whole Foods Market VIP area! The Twilight Concert series runs through September 10th.
Farm-fresh summer music at Farmers Market: At what many call the “Original” Farmers Market, Thursday and Friday nights through September 6th offer more than just farm-fresh food. Thursdays are host to free jazz and Fridays offer an eclectic mix from Blues to Samba to Pop. Make sure to stop by the West Patio from 7pm – 9pm!
Chinatown Summer Nights: Only offered three times throughout the summer, part food event, part summer party, visitors in LA’s Chinatown can sample some classic LA street food, take part in hands on food demonstrations and sip craft beer while dancing in Central Plaza. The last event is on August 22nd (in just a couple days!) so be sure to head to Chinatown between 5pm – midnight to celebrate the last of this summer’s Chinatown festivities.
Nighttime at the Zoo: Yep, you guessed it… move slightly south to San Diego and there are even more nighttime summer activities to take advantage of! Every summer evening through September 7th, the San Diego Zoo comes alive with music, performances and movie screenings. Different activities are located all throughout the park from the late afternoon through the evening hours, so be sure to bring your walking shoes to experience everything the zoo has to offer!
San Diego Beach Bonfires: Whether you’re a San Diego local or have just come to visit, nighttime summer beach bonfires are hard to miss. Up and down the coasts of San Diego it’s common to smell that classic campfire smell throughout the summer and even into the fall and winter months. Since setting up a bonfire can be a little intimidating for a newbie, not to mention figuring out what’s legal and what’s not, the Beach Fire Guy is here to help! Simply visit beachfireguy.com and you’ll be set up in no time!
